Preliminary Task - The Filming.

The filming

With using the equipment I thought it was harder than I expected. With using the tripods on the camera, it was really hard to get the exact position that we wanted to film. When we filmed the dialogue bit it was quite easy because once we got the cameras where we wanted it was easy because we could just leave them as they were and our actors could have there conversation. When I had to film the tracking shot I had to do it quite a few time, this was because we filmed on the carpet and when I was moving the dolly it kept going jiggered so I had to do it slowly and carefully. Also it took quite a few times to do the match on action as something kept going wrong every time we did it. The cameras weren’t lined up right or it wasn’t recording or we did it to fast or slowly.
When we were filming the problems that occurred were the cameras weren’t in line with each other when we were trying to film the match on action and 180 degree rule, this was because they were at the opposite ends of the room and it took a while to get them exactly right.
When we were filming we kept all the equipment that we had planned to have and we also did our 180 rule, match on action and shot reverse shot exactly how we were going to do it. The only things that were different was a few lines in our script were changed and also we planned to do a zoom in on the bullied boy at the start and at the end a zoomed out shot of the teacher and boy sitting at a table but we didn’t. We didn’t end up doing this because we decided it wasn’t needed.
We had to re-film the tracking shot and the match on action shot a lot of times. The reason we had to film the tracking shot was because it kept going very bumpy on the carpet. We had to keep re-filming the match on action because we had a camera on each side of the door and it wasn’t in time right or we were doing it to quickly or slowly but we got it done in the end.
I think that my group did prepare ourselves well, we had a story board and script so we knew exactly what we were doing, we went and set up our cameras first so when we could start filming it was all ready, we gave ourselves exactly the right time to do it again. I was very happy that my group was prepared.
There were four people in my group so it was quite difficult to figure out who filmed what because we wanted to make it all even and in the end we each did our equal part and we determined to make this as best we could so we worked well together.
What I enjoyed most when filming was match on action shot, even though it took a while to do I liked it the most because it was the hardest shot to film and when we got it done I felt really pleased.

Preliminary Task Script.

Script!
Yas, Jess, Millie, Kat

Billy is a new student in school who has been called to see his head of year. Billy is unaware of what the meeting is about but is slightly suspicious as to what it might be. He has been having troubles lately and is finding it difficult to keep in his emotions.

(Billy walks down the corridor that leads to the door he is about to enter, once he arrives at the door he reaches out for the door handle and opens it, he then walks into the room and sees his head of year looking at him with a slight comforting smile, at this point he is more at ease but still incredibly nervous but is trying to hide it. When talking to the teacher he is constantly covering a patch above his eye where he has a bruise, this makes the teacher even more suspicious)

Teacher: Take a seat Billy.

(Billy sits down in the chair in front of the teacher and gives her a slight forced grin)

Teacher: So how are you coping with being in a new school?

Billy: (quivering) Yeah I’m really starting to like it

Teacher: (smiles at his answer but is slightly curious and not fully convinced) Glad to hear, how are you getting along with the lessons?

Billy: Good I think... (Thinking this is why he has been called in)I have been trying really hard to keep up with all the work; I’m trying my hardest Miss I really am

Teacher: (comfortingly) and I’m sure you are, in fact I’ve had really got reports back from teachers telling me how well your coming along

Billy: (nerves build up) then why have you called me here?

Teacher: (pause as she does not want to be insensitive) how would you say you have been getting on socially?

Billy: (defensive) what do you mean? I’ve made loads of new friends since I’ve been here, everyone has been really welcoming

Teacher: Billy if there is something bothering you, you really should tell me.

FLASHBACK!Blurred short scene between Billy and his father. In this clip he is being abused and thrown around but it is unclear weather this figure is his father or not as his face is not clear

(Once the flashback has ended Billy is left looking into space with a blank expression)

Teacher- Billy? Look I only want to help you; I’m doing it for your own safety

Billy: (explodes) Look you have no idea what you’re talking about okay! Don’t pretend like you care, you teachers are all the same!

(Billy goes to stand up)

Teacher – (shocked) Billy sit back down, I know it must be difficult but its not good suffering in silence, I’ve had reports back from your p.e teacher saying on numerous occasions you have had bruises on your legs and I can clearly see you trying to hide one now! (Calmly) I’m only trying to help you

Billy: (shaking with nerves and close to tears) there’s nothing you can do to help

Teacher: Billy I’m going to have to contact your parents, they have a right to know that there is something bothering you, perhaps you would prefer to talk to them about who is doing this to you?

(Billy sits there in silence slightly rocking his body and shaking his head)

Teacher: If you talk to them about it, you might find it will make the situation better

Billy: make it better?! How could it make it better? All it would do it makes everything worse (can not hold back tears)

Teacher: how could it make it worse?

(Billy stares in silence)

Teacher: Billy, how could it make it worse?!

Billy: (shouts) Because my dad is the one who is doing this to me!

Preliminary Task Storyboard.

Preliminary Task - Description of ideas for task.

Description of ideas!

We narrowed our ideas down to two, we were either going create a scene about a young school boy being bullied and a teacher confronting him about it, or we were going to create a romantic scene with a women telling her husband she is pregnant (both drama genres). We ended up choosing the bullying scene because we thought the camera angles would suit it better, (easy for him to walk into a teacher’s office and have dialogue). We were told to use the following camera angles, 180 degree rule and we are going to use this when the teacher and school boy were having dialogue. Shot reverse shot which we are also going to use on the conversation and then Match on action which we are going to use for the school boy to walk through a door. At the start of the scene we have planned to use a tracking shot for the school boy to be working towards us to the door (we will use 1 camera, 1 tripod and a dolly). When we film the match on action we will be using 2 tripods and two cameras so we can have one either side of the door. When they are exchanging dialogue we will have to cameras one facing the teachers face and the school boys shoulders and then the other on the school boys face and the teachers shoulders.
